Bristol Wedding Planner: 2014 Highlights

As were half way through 2014 and this years wedding season I thought I'd share some highlights of what Sweet & Pretty weddings has been up to.

It's been a great year so far and there's still lots of great weddings to go in the busy season between now and September.

I've noticed rustic weddings overtaking vintage this year with lots of burlap, natural looking  flowers and hay bales making an appearance but vintage is still popular as always.

A Sweet and Pretty Year

Well it's almost the first anniversary of Sweet & Pretty launching and what a fantastic year it's been.I thought I'd share a little recap of the highlights of my year as a Bristol Wedding Planner.

I've had the opportunity to be involved in 23 amazing weddings and events and my diary for 2014 already has over 20 entries so it looks like 2014 is going to be even busier.

I started off by launching my new brand and products at the fabulous Bristol Vintage Wedding Fair. My jam jar wedding favours proved an immediate hit and have graced many weddings since.

Candy buffets have also been popular this year proving they're a trend that's set to stay. Here's a look a some of my work. I think this year I've really honed my signature style and tried to set my sweet tables apart as offering something a bit different for the style conscious couples.

It's also been fantastic to focus more on wedding coordination and planning this year. I've been lucky enough to work as a freelance wedding coordinator at two unique Bristol wedding venues.

The first is St George's Bristol, an amazing music venue just off Park Street with gorgeous grounds, a stunning hall and its own underground crypt bar. It's been a pleasure working with the couples who had their receptions there and the team at St George's.

The other venue is the seemingly unusual wedding venue Arnos Vale Cemetery. If you've not thought about getting married in a cemetery (I wouldn't blame you!) then you'd be amazed quite how beautiful and  serene Arnos Vale is.

After working at several weddings there I have to say I was a little unsure if it would feel spooky or strange but it honestly doesn't. It really is stunning with the historic Anglican Chapel and Spielman Centre. You also now have the opportunity to marry legally outdoors in a woodland setting at the new Underwood Centre. I'm looking forward to my first woodland wedding soon.

I've also been busy with on the day wedding coordination at some fantastic venues.

Thanks to Steve Richardson Wedding Photography for the above images at Wick Farm.

Here's a few other shots from some of the venues Sweet & Pretty have visited this year. These include Corsham Town Hall, The Roman Baths, The Four Seasons Hampshire and Bath Guildhall.

Here's a few more fun things I got up to. Here's one from the Orangery at Tortworth Court and a movie night themed candy buffet for a James Bond premiere themed school prom I planned for Broadlands Academy.

Phew! What a great year. I can't wait to get stuck into some amazing weddings and parties in 2014. I have just a few summer weekends free if you need any help planning your event or want yummy candy buffets or favours.

Why Book On the Day Wedding Coordination

This summer has been my busiest ever so far (hence a bit of a lack of blog posts!). As well as lots of candy buffets and jam jar wedding favours, my on the day wedding coordination service has been very popular and I'm, getting lots of bookings through for 2014 too.

Many couples initially rule out a wedding planner as an American fad or something only celebrities use. However in reality a wedding planner is perfect for both those planning huge expensive weddings and those planning low cost DIY ones.

If you're planning a DIY wedding, you may have chosen somewhere like a village hall with a reasonable hire charge to hold your wedding. This means there's no dedicated wedding coordinator to manage all of the suppliers you have booked and no-one to decorate your venue and make sure things run smoothly.

On the Day Coordination also suits those with busy lives, who don't want to spend the last six weeks before the wedding running around contacting suppliers, finalising details and staying up late decorating the venue the night before.

On the day wedding coordination starts from £350 and includes

Before The Wedding

Complimentary Initial Consultation
Detailed consultation 6 weeks before wedding
Liaison and confirmation with all suppliers prior to wedding
Creation of detailed wedding day checklist and timeline
Contingency planning

On The Wedding Day

Arrival at 9am to decorate and greet suppliers
Room set up and decoration
Coordination of suppliers
Full management of the day
Assisting guests
Any announcements required
Any small jobs needed like keeping things tidy and packing up hired items

If you would like to assistance of a wedding planner or think that on the day coordination could help you, please from Sweet & Pretty Weddings or visit my website

Why Use A Bristol Wedding Planner?

The market for Wedding Planners is steadily growing in the UK with more and more couples with busy work and social lives finding it hard to find the time to plan their dream weddings. Today Bristol Wedding Planner, Stephanie Allison from How 2 I Do Wedding & Event Planning talks us through how a wedding planner can help you.

·     It takes 250 hours to plan a wedding, that 6 weeks full time. Your wedding planner can put in most of the hours of research and planning on your behalf so that you can have the time back to enjoy your engagement

·    Your planner can show you how to really make your budget work for you no matter how big or small

·     Your planner will ensure that trusted key suppliers are booked in a timely fashion and that nothing is left too late or overlooked

·     They can also save you money by negotiating with suppliers and helping you to make simple but clever substitutions without it ever looking like corners have been cut.

·     They will be there on the morning of the wedding to make sure the venue is decorated and set up correctly, while you simply relax and get ready at your leisure.

·     As part of the local wedding industry, planners know and work with some of Bristol and the South West’s top wedding suppliers, so you know you’ll have the very best team on board for your wedding.

·     Your wedding planner will liaise and confirm bookings with all of your suppliers to ensure they know exactly what needs doing and when.

·     They will make a detailed time frame for the wedding day and make sure everything runs like clockwork.

·     They will make detailed contingency plans in case to be ready for anything that goes wrong. For example I have years of experience in the hospitality industry, and have encountered everything from medical emergencies to fires, gas leaks and floods so you can be sure that I know how to deal calmly and efficiently with any unforeseen problems.

·     Wedding Planners can help you to avoid common wedding planning pitfalls like cutting back in the wrong areas or overspending on things you really don’t need.

Bristol Wedding Planner Explains On the Day Coordination

Today Bristol Wedding News Editor and Bristol Wedding Planner, Stephanie Allison shares with us why On the Day Coordination is perfect for the modern Bristol Bride.

So you've spent a year to 18 months planning your dream Wedding. You're naturally excited as the weeks tick down to the big day but you're also nervous. The nerves come from fear you'll trip as you walk down the aisle of totally lose it in a massive teary lip trembling wobble as you say your vows (I did this and people thought it was sweet so don't worry!) Nerves are also caused by the fact that you want everything to be perfect and for everyone to love it.

The ironic fact is that as the Bride you have very little control on how the actual Wedding day pans out. Yes you can spend months or years planning every little detail to the nth degree, but on the morning you will be at home, or at the hairdressers or having your make up done as everything is being put together.

If you're lucky your venue will have a great Wedding Coordinator, who will be ensuring everything is being done for you. However, check if your coordinator will actually be there on the day. Often it's left to catering staff to decide what goes where. The other disadvantage is that they only deal with the reception. They won't confirm with your suppliers, or know if your car hasn't turned up on time, or care if the flowers in the church don't match your bouquet.

This is where I come in to help. Most Wedding planners now offer On the Day Coordination as a fantastic service for Brides that want to plan their own Wedding, but also want the reassurance that the day itself will run like clockwork. On the Day Coordination is also great to reduce the last minute stress and panic associated with those crucial last few weeks. I would meet you 4 week before the Wedding and talk through how you want the day to be.

I'll then make a detailed list of timings and contact all of your suppliers and venues to confirm you bookings and make sure they know where they need to be and when. Before becoming a Wedding Planner I worked in Hospitality as an Operations Manager and a lot of my time was spent contingency planning, organising suppliers, motivating staff, managing budgets and dealing with emergencies such as a flood, power cuts and even fires. You can therefore be sure that I know how to manage a crisis calmly.

On the day itself, as your Wedding Planner, I'll be working hard behind the scenes to ensure everything runs smoothly and on time. I'll deal with any little emergencies discretely and professionally and your guests won't even know I'm there unless you want me to act as Master of Ceremonies too.

So how much does this cost? Not as much as you may think. It starts from just £350 for a small Wedding to up to £500 for a larger scale affair with a lot of preparation and set up on the morning of the Wedding. So if you think this service is for you, please get in touch as I'd love to hear about all of the amazing things you have planned for your Wedding and I'd like to help you to relax, knowing your dreams of a perfect Wedding are being turned into a beautiful reality. I work as a Wedding Planner in Bristol, Bath and Somerset with my Wedding Planning company, How 2 I Do.
