Wedding Industry Tweet Up

Wednesday night was the second Bristol Wedding Tweet Up organised by Kirsten Butler, The Little Wedding Helper and held in the Champagne Bar at the glorious Goldbrick House. Guests from across the Wedding Industry arrived from 6pm to be greeted by complimentary champagne and delicious canapes. Bristol Wedding Photographer Marie Man was on hand with her camera to capture the evening and her brilliant pictures are shown here.

Many Wedding Suppliers had brought goods for guests to sample or win in the raffle including delicious biscuits from Mullion Cove, beautiful flowers by Bijoux Floral and Bella and Fifi and amazing gift bags and boxes from Rachel Goodchild. There was also a free cut and blow dry and hair products from McQueens Hair Design, won by a rather surprised Martin Pemberton as well as CDs from The Tender Trap and yummy cupcakes from Cupcake Cabaret

Music was provided by female trio The Tender Trap who sing in beautiful harmony while playing keyboard, and drums. They played a selection of vintage inspired music that created a lovely ambience as people chattered, laughed and exchanged business cards.

Guests also got to enjoy a delicious selection of sweets from Bristol Candy Buffet. The Buffet was styled in vintage colours to match the Little Wedding Helper's venue styling. It was hugely popular all evening and only a handful of sweets were left in the the pretty jars and vintage tins by the end of the night.

The Little Wedding Helper styled the Champagne Bar with pretty flowers, vintage floral china, gorgeous battered vintage suitcases and a framed board for people to add their business cards to.

It was a great fun and friendly event and there will be another one scheduled in the New Year for anyone who missed out or wants to come to another one. See all of Marie's pictures here

Real Bristol Wedding at Leigh Court

We are delighted that Bristol Wedding Photographer Howard from Howard Keith Photography decided to share this gorgeous Wedding with us. It is the Wedding of Tanu Bhat and Steve Clareboets, from Bristol. The couple got married in India in early June, with a ceremony that stretched over several days and included well over 300 hundred guests.

The English side of the wedding took place only a few days later at Leigh Court on Saturday 18th June. There were more than 120 guests that included four bridesmaids, Nicki, Sanji, Roohika and Sita. The weather was a typical British summer's day mixture of sunshine and showers.

Our favourite shot has to be these stunning portraits of Tanu and we think you'll agree that she makes an absolutely beautiful Bride. Our warmest congratulations to Tanu and Steve and thank you to Howard Keith Photography for sharing their special day.

If you are a Bristol Bride or photographer, please submit your Weddings to us to share. We will include any stylish Weddings that match the look and feel of the blog. Email them to .

Swirls and Curls Cupcakes

Cupcakes are everywhere these days and they are a Wedding trend that is certainly here to stay. Kim from Swirls and Curls contacted us recently to tell us about her gorgeous cupcakes and after browsing her website and facebook page, we had to show you some of her ever so pretty cakes. We especially love the ice cream cone cupcakes below. They are so original and fun and would make brilliant favours for a summer Wedding.

If you want the more traditional cupcake tower, here is an example of Kim's work below. This can make a great alternative to the traditional Wedding cake and means your guests can each have a cake to eat or take home.

What we really love is the beautiful piping and decoration on these cakes. If you want to find out how to decorate your own cupcakes, Swirls and Curls also offer great workshops where you can learn a fun new skill. How pretty are the purple cakes below, especially the rose effect piping and gorgeous bow.

Kim was kind enough to send us a sample of her cakes to try and I am happy to report that the 4 cakes we received tasted every bit as good as they looked, with delicious moist sponge and heavenly chocolate icing. They were all beautifully presented, topped off with pretty bows, butterflies, flowers and edible glitter.

Take a look at the Swirls and Curls website and facebook page to see more examples of what's on offer.

The Story of a Vintage Car Company -Ken's Kars

Today we are delighted that Wayne Smith from Ken's Cars is sharing his heartwarming story about keeping  his late Grandad's passion for vintage cars alive. We particularly love the black and white pictures of Ken working on his cars in the 50s.

Helping my Grandad, Ken Harmer, from an early age and always having an interest in old cars, it seemed natural that when he unexpectedly died in 2006, I took over the running of his vintage wedding car company, Kens Kars, which is based in Chipping Sodbury.

Grandad set up the company in the early 1980’s as a sideline to his hobby of restoring and driving vintage cars. He had a special affection for big Austin’s which I am sure stems from using them in the 1950’s and 60’s running Chipping sodbury’s 24 Hour taxi service ‘Harmers Taxis’ with his father Albert. I remember him relaying stories about taking the local Darts team around in an Austin 18 shooting brake, and the story of when one of the cars was totally covered by snow along the Horton to Hawkesbury road.

                                  Kens Kars

Originally Ken’s Kars started with just two 1930’s Austin 18’s, both royal blue and black, but as time passed, and Grandad restored more cars, the fleet grew, finally ending up with 7 Austin 18’s. In 1988 it was Grandads son, my uncle Roy that introduced the first American car into the fleet, this was the 1928 Studebaker, and later the 1932 Oldsmobile joined this. Disaster struck on August 9th 2005 when there was a fire at our premises and 4 of the cars were totally destroyed in the blaze, not being disheartened by this it was a case of the show must go on.

A year later Grandad passed away and it was at this point that I put myself forward as the person to keep the wedding cars going and take over the running of the company along with my Nan. Since being in the driving seat – so to speak- I have replaced Roy’s 1928 Studebaker with one of my own, and also added another, this time a 1930 Studebaker.

We now run 6, 1920’s and 30’s, cars and are available all year round for weddings and film work. Anyone interested in enquiring about our cars can contact us on 01454 313194 or through our Website

If Vintage Music be the Food of Love...

When you get Married it's easy to put entertainment to the bottom of your to-do list but it's really important to think about music for your Wedding as it can make such a huge difference to the atmosphere. Here's a few ideas for vintage style musical entertainment in the Bristol area.

We mentioned Shellac Sound recently and we still heart them big style for their selection of records from the 20s to 40s played on vintage grammaphones. It creates an amazing retro feel for a vintage style wedding.

If live music is more you thing but you still want a vintage vibe, then The Tender Trap could be right up your street. They are a female trio who play jazz and blues and sing in gorgeous three part harmonies. They specialise in music from the 40s to 70 and promise to bring "vintage chic" to your Wedding. Take a look at their website for some videos of them playing.

If you are looking for a glee club feel then perhaps H Club could suit you. They are a group of experienced male singers who peform a cappella (think the Warblers). They are all members of the Great Western Chorus and all of their fees go towards keeping the Chorus, which is a registered charity, running. They even play air trumpet and are guaranteed to bring a smile to your guest's faces.
