Contingency and Planning Tips
- Make sure that you have good quality wedding insurance as the £50 you spend will be invaluable if anything goes wrong or you have to cancel at short notice
- Have a wet weather plan for photos and drinks receptions
- Buy some large golf umbrellas just in case
- Visit your venue 6 weeks before and reconfirm with all of your suppliers
- Go to Wedding Fairs to meet lots of suppliers in person
- Expensive Weddings are not always the best - spend your money wisely and you can have an amazing day from anywhere between £5000 and £10000
- If your budget is smaller, limit your numbers as you will need to allow about £50 per guest to pay for food and drinks
- Keeping your bridal party small will also help your budget as Bridesmaids can cost £200 each
- You can make lots of things yourself to keep costs down from invitation to favours, cakes and decorations
- Large floral displays are expensive but tea lights, rose petals, floating candles, hurricane lamps or pretty foil helium balloons can look just as effective at a fraction of the cost
- Use talented friends to sing, play instruments or make cakes
- Don't scrimp on photography, food quality or entertainment as you may regret it afterwards
- Wedding magazines can be a great source of inspiration. Wedding Ideas and Perfect Weddings are good
- Photographers blogs are a good place to see real weddings in local venues and can provide great inspiration
- Wedding forums like You and Your Wedding, Wedding Ideas and Hitched allow you to chat to other Brides and share ideas
- Wedding Fairs allow you to meet lots of suppliers and sample their products. The large ones often have fashion shows to give you dress ideas
