Kings Weston House Re-opens for Weddings

Historic Kings Weston House was closed just over a year ago and bought by the new owner Norman late last year. Local businessman Norman is currently lovingly restoring the building as his home and as a top wedding venue.

Kings Weston House is a Grade 1 listed building which was designed in the early 18th Century by Sir John Vanbrugh, the same architect who designed the stately Blenheim Palace. It has some unique features such as a hanging staircase and the antlers of a now extinct Irish Elk as well as extensive grounds.

The weddings will be coordinated by Michele Jetzer who won the Best Wedding Coordinator at a Venue award at the Wedding Industry Awards this year for the second year running.

The grand opening of the venue will be marked with a wedding fair on Saturday 7th September from 11am to 3pm with the venues approved suppliers exhibiting. Weddings will be taking place at the venue from September and you can view it now but Michelle says you may need to "use your imagination" as there is currently work taking place.

To arrange a viewing or find out more about weddings at Kings Weston House, contact or call her on 07969 201183

Weird and Wonderful Wedding World

On Saturday 13th April At-Bristol will be hosting a wedding fair with difference. The Weird and Wonderful Wedding Show takes place from 6pm to 11pm and guests can enjoy a free glass of Kir Royale on arrival

The fair is organised by Emily Fisher from Fishee Designs Photo Booth and Ali Cook from Bristol Vintage (the face behind the successful Bristol Vintage Wedding Fair) who realised that there’s a whole world of wedding suppliers out there who don’t fit into the mainstream and need a showcase for their brilliant talents.

"The show will appeal not only to brides out there looking for something really different, but to quirky couples who want to dress up, have a cocktail or two, listen to local bands, dance or chill out, whilst surrounded by the weirdest and most wonderful wedding suppliers on one floor, making it a great night out.

You can enjoy a fashion show under the stars in the Planetarium, watch jugglers, close-up magicians and living statues and, when your man gets tired, send him off to the ‘man creche’ to play on all the interactive science centre exhibits (and, of course, you can have a play too!)."

Emily says: “Although we both love vintage, there are some amazing alternatives, all standing out from the crowd in their own unique way. Couples clearly want to start adding a splash of colour and coolness to stamp their personal style on their big day – and this is the place to find those touches. It doesn’t have to be virgin white all the way you know - it’s your big day, after all, and really should reflect your personality!”

Tickets will be available on the day at £5. Find out more and see the full list of suppliers here

The Wishing Well Wedding Fair

Naomi Thomas began working as a self employed wedding planner in 2005, but after only four years pursuing her dream career and only three months with her fiancé Graham, Naomi’s world was turned upside down as, at just 26 years old, she was given the devastating news that she had Breast Cancer.

‘It was terrifying,” she says. “Your world just falls apart, especially thinking of my loved ones. When I was diagnosed I had to deal with all sorts of difficult issues, but it was just as tough for Graham. How partners cope with a breast cancer diagnosis and the rollercoaster of emotions that follow is often overlooked.’

After a gruelling series of treatments including an operation, chemotherapy followed by radiotherapy, Naomi had hoped she had beaten the disease and looked to the future with Graham. Both were delighted when in early 2010, aged 27, Naomi discovered she was pregnant and expecting their first child. Sadly shortly after the birth, she discovered the cancer had returned and this time it was terminal.

‘You forget it’s happening to you,’ says Naomi. ‘All I know is I won’t survive this and I just enjoy every day as it comes. Over time I’ve come to terms with it. It’s the people you leave behind I feel for’ she explains.

Naomi had to cancel her wedding day due to the financial impact of cancer. Her extraordinary story caught the attention of local Wedding Planner Sam Williams and through the enormous generosity of Sam, the local community and from complete strangers, a dream wedding was arranged with donations from wedding suppliers.

So, in early 2012, Naomi decided to try to help others to get married just as she had been helped. The Wedding Wishing Well Foundation was born. She says, ‘When I began the foundation I wanted to help as many people with terminal illnesses or life threatening conditions have the wedding day they could only have dreamt of and I want this to continue. The foundation will be my legacy and that makes me a very proud woman.’

Local Bristol Wedding Planner Jo Robbins was so moved by the work of the Wishing Well Foundation she has organised a wedding fair at Bakers and Cutler Hall at Brasserie Blanc in Cabot Circus. Jo already has a great line up of top wedding suppliers eager to exhibit and support the foundation. She is also looking for help from those who have already tied the knot.

Jo says " If anyone would like to donate their pre-loved wedding dress/suit/accessories/children's dresses and suits, then on the day of the event we will be collecting them for Naomi to offer to brides or to sell to raise funds for the foundation."

The wedding fair takes place on Sunday 3rd March from 11am to 4:30pm.

Vintage In The Park Wedding Fair Supporting Cots For Tots

Bristol Wedding Photographer Liz Gayther of Lizzie-May Photography is organising a very special vintage Wedding fair to raise funds for childrens charity Cots for Tots.

The Fair will take place on Sunday, 16 October at Old Down Country Park, which has been reopened recently, and houses a wide range of animals, a play area, cafe and gift shop as well as beautifully landscaped grounds and  incredible views of the Severn Valley. It now offers Brides a unique, boutique style country house perfect for fairytale weddings.

Lizzie decided to raise money for Cots For Tots following the birth of her second child, who had to spend time in the Southmead NICU as well as the Childrens Hospital due to breathing difficulties. She explains more here,

"Luckily she's fine, and even at the time, she was one of the bigger babies on the ward. Many of the others were premature, or in need of 24 hour care. It really must be scary for the parents and a great deal of work for the nurses and doctors. Therefore, I would like to give something back to them by way of thanks for their incredible work. I hope you'll join me in donating your time and money to this worthy cause.

Some of our stall holders will be displaying original, vintage items. Some will be vintage inspired. Above all, everything on display will be truly inspiring and unique. The Fair will appeal to brides who want a full vintage wedding, and to those who just want something that little bit different or just need some inspiration or that special touch. It will also appeal to the discerning vintage crowd. Entry on the day will be free - but all donations and raffle monies going to Cots for Tots"

If you are a vintage supplier and wish to exhibit or a Bride who wishes to find out more and support the campaign, you can contact Lizzie here or look at the Vintage In The Park blog for more information.
